Individual Grants Online http://www.individualgrantsonline.com A collection of free money programs Thu, 08 Sep 2011 04:35:39 +0000 en hourly 1 http://wordpress.org/?v=3.0.4 Matthew Lesko – Is His Grant and Scholarship Information For Real? http://www.individualgrantsonline.com/2011/09/07/matthew-lesko-grants-and-scholarships/ http://www.individualgrantsonline.com/2011/09/07/matthew-lesko-grants-and-scholarships/#comments Thu, 08 Sep 2011 04:35:39 +0000 admin http://www.individualgrantsonline.com/?p=27061 One of the most colorful characters on late-night television in recent years is Matthew Lesko. He’s probably best know for his colorful outfits and promises to help you find “free money” in the form of grants and scholarships. Some people have labeled him a scam probably because of his weird outfits and crazy presentation manner in his infomercials.

After borrowing a couple of his books from a friend, I discovered actually a great listing of grants and money available to women, minorities, entrepreneurs and other people looking for financial help. Matthew Lesko, in my opinion, has done nothing more than do the “grunt work” in compiling a large list of government, corporate, and foundation money available. Is it as easy as he or others make it sound to get the money? Probably not, but nonetheless, one of the hardest problems to solve is where to start looking. For this, Lesko gives the solution and provides value in this area.

No, I am not paid or endorsing Matthew Lesko or his materials – you’ll have to decide for yourself if you desire to go further. I’m simply saying that if you need a good starting point to find free money and grants, it might be worth the price of one of his books IF and ONLY IF you intend on following through and making application to some of the programs. What happens with most people is they buy books like this and do nothing with it.

Where can you find Matthew Lesko’s free money books? Some are available at larger bookstores or online. It’s been a while since I’ve seen him on TV, so I don’t know if he’s still doing the infomercials. One funny thing: I saw him on an interview a few years ago when he was still on TV a lot. You might think he’s as crazy as a loon. In this TV interview I saw, he was very calm, sensible, articulate, and built a good case for the information he sells. Again, you will have to decide, but if you could get even a small amount of money from one of his sources it might be worth the cost of the book. Much information is available on the internet for those willing to search; however, many people would like to have a large resource to start with first.

Mini Grants: Don’t Disregard the Power of the Small Grant for Your Funding Needs http://www.individualgrantsonline.com/2011/08/26/mini-grants-dont-disregard-power-small-grant-funding-needs/ http://www.individualgrantsonline.com/2011/08/26/mini-grants-dont-disregard-power-small-grant-funding-needs/#comments Fri, 26 Aug 2011 15:48:40 +0000 admin http://www.individualgrantsonline.com/?p=27057 Mini Grants are an excellent way to fund your educational needs as well as your business. Often, people will overlook a small grant and only concentrate on larger grants $10,000 and over. The fact is that the more the grant’s value, the more competitive it will be to receive those funds. There are usually many more qualifications and supporting information required to apply for these larger funding opportunities.

Mini grants are small grants (or mini scholarships) usually in amounts like $500, $1000, or slightly more. Smaller organizations can offer these amounts in lieu of tens of thousands of dollars beyond their ability to give.

How can you allow these to work for you? Consider these steps:

    1. Expand your funding or scholarship searches to these lower amounts.
    2. Build a list of all mini grants which match your source of funding.
    3. Be sure to look at civic agencies, foundations (both corporate and private), and local community agencies.
    4. Don’t fail to look at the STATE level as well as the local level of organizations.
    5. Don’t cut yourself short by not spending the TIME to look for these small grants. There are thousands of them which are not always easy to find.
    6. Search for lists of grants online that you can research further. For instance, we have a “Big List of Nursing Grants” someone could use to drill down further to find funding that matches their particular endeavor. You can especially find some of the smaller grants this way.
    7. Ask some of the organizations you apply to if they know of similar organizations who fund your area of need. Often, these organizations network and will have information on each others resources.
    8. Don’t start two weeks before you need the money! Allow yourself ample time to apply as many grants have CYCLES where you can only apply certain times of the year.

There is much money out there which requires diligence to find and apply for. Remember that for every grant you find and apply for, you chances increase of securing more money!

Nursing Scholarships and Grants – A Big List to Help You Find Financial Aide to Train as a Nurse http://www.individualgrantsonline.com/2011/08/21/nursing-scholarships-and-grants-a-big-list-to-help-you-find-financial-aide-to-train-as-a-nurse/ http://www.individualgrantsonline.com/2011/08/21/nursing-scholarships-and-grants-a-big-list-to-help-you-find-financial-aide-to-train-as-a-nurse/#comments Sun, 21 Aug 2011 19:21:53 +0000 admin http://www.individualgrantsonline.com/?p=27046 I love to find “Lists” of things on the internet, especially when seeking out Grants and Scholarships. One of the areas most searched for on IndividualGrantsOnline.com is in the area of Nursing and Medical Grants. Over the past few months I have run across some excellent sites which lists grants or scholarships available to train in the Nursing field.

Please note that there seems to be a general distinction between those wanting to train to be a Doctor or Surgeon and those who simply want an education in Nursing. This may be true only to a degree, however this is my perception from searching for these grants. Some of the grants / scholarships are rather small and some are considerably larger, but hey, every little bit helps, right? So here are some lists of Nursing Grants to and some sites that provide more information:

1. Nurse Scholarships are available at the Health Resources and Services administration.  This program provides good funding in exchange for working for 2 years at certain facilities directed by the program.

2. CollegeScholarships.org has a page specifically designed to nursing.

3.  The Michigan Center for Nursing has a great page for funding here.

4. The Michigan League for Nurses currently offers scholarships in the amount of $1000.00.

5.  Johnson and Johnson offers a “Discover Nursing” scholarship for people who qualify.

6. The National Student Nurses association is another funding organization which has given millions in the nursing field.

7.  Mercy Health Partners – click here for scholarship information.

8. The Nursing Schools Guide is a good site about varying nursing degree programs and scholarships.

9. Disadvantages Students scholarship in the Nursing field are also available.

10.  Information about the US Public Health Service Commissioned Corp is available here.  There are 3 different programs for students to receive training while serving their country.

11. The US Army ROTC provides scholarships in Nursing.

12. The American Nurses Association provides a Ethnic and Minority PreDoctoral and Postdoctoral fellowship for qualified persons.

13. The Emergency Nurses Association provides scholarship funding information on their homepage here.

14. The American Cancer Society offers $15,000 per year scholarships for Doctoral Degrees in Cancer Nursing.  They also provide an additional scholarship for Graduates in Cancer Nursing Practice.

15. The Tylenol Future Care Scholarship information can be found on Our Post Here and more information on the company link here.

16. The Oncology Nursing Society Foundation Scholarships can be found here.

17. Nursing scholarships are available for Hispanics at the National Association of Hispanic Nurses.

18. Grants and Fellowships are offered by the Epilepsy Foundation.

19. The American Association of Critical Care Nurses Scholarship information is available here.

20. People involved in active duty for the Army (or are a reservist) can receive money to complete a Bachelors in Science in Nursing.

One surprise I had in doing this post was the number of places someone to go to to receive funding in this growing area of healthcare.  Look for more posts in the future on nursing scholarship opportunities.

United States Students Studying Abroad- Marshall Scholarship http://www.individualgrantsonline.com/2011/08/07/united-states-students-studying-abroad-marshall-scholarship/ http://www.individualgrantsonline.com/2011/08/07/united-states-students-studying-abroad-marshall-scholarship/#comments Sun, 07 Aug 2011 20:22:46 +0000 admin http://www.individualgrantsonline.com/?p=27042 United States students cannot participate in the Chevening Scholarship program; however, that does not mean there are no grants to study abroad, specifically in the UK. If there is a particular school in the UK you have had your eye on, the Marshall Scholarship could be the answer to funding problems.

A Little History

The Marshall Scholarship was established at the end of the second World War and was a part of the Marshall act. The very first recipients of this scholarship were four women and eight men chosen from an applicant pool of 700. The idea behind this grant was to provide continued relations in line with the unique relationship the United States has with the United Kingdom.

Qualifying

Approximately 40 United States under graduates are chosen each year to receive the Marshall Scholarship. These grants to study abroad provide students with two years of full funding to any college in the country, with a third year extension provided in specific situations. Students are allowed to choose from any learning institution but many choose the London School of Economics, Cambridge or Oxford. The process:

• Students are chosen by their college to receive an application
• Applications are reviewed at one of the eight British embassy/consulate in the US
• From University recommended applicants committees will narrow the field
• Approximately 1/6th of applicants will move on to interview

Sample Qualifications

• No age restrictions apply but you must have obtained first degree after April 2008
• First undergraduate degree must come from a qualifying four year US college
• Cannot have graduated from British University prior to application
• GPA must be 3.7

Important Information

The Marshall Scholarship is traditionally a two-year program, meaning you have to attend a full two years, in specific situations a limited one year grant could be given. Of the last 40 Marshall Grants given, 8 were for one-year study. This type of grant is not extendable, so you will want to make sure this is sufficient.

This grant to study abroad is applicable to any university of your choosing, however final admittance is determined by the University and not the committee. This simply means that you are not guaranteed admittance and should be prepared with a second and perhaps even a third choice.

You must be able to obtain a degree within the two-year funding time frame. However, you can apply to doctorate programs and it is possible to receive an extension for a third year of study, this is not guaranteed and you will need to be able to complete a two-year degree if your funding is not extended.

Want to Study Abroad? Consider a Chevening Scholarship http://www.individualgrantsonline.com/2011/08/07/want-to-study-abroad-consider-a-chevening-scholarship/ http://www.individualgrantsonline.com/2011/08/07/want-to-study-abroad-consider-a-chevening-scholarship/#comments Sun, 07 Aug 2011 19:19:26 +0000 admin http://www.individualgrantsonline.com/?p=27039 If you have ever considered going to college in another country you may have wondered if there were any money to study abroad. The good news is if you are a resident of a participating country, you may qualify for a Chevening Scholarship.

Chevening Scholarship

This is a highly competitive scholarship named for Chevening house in Kent, which is the country home of the United Kingdom’s foreign secretary. This 115-room mansion sitting on 3,500 acres is currently shared residence for both the Foreign Secretary and the Deputy Prime Minister. The Chevening Scholarship is a scheme developed to provide education for individuals who will take their experience and leadership back to their home countries, thereby developing a network of “friends” for the UK.

Number of Scholarships

The number of scholarships will vary by country of residence. For example, 10 scholarships were provided for residents of Australia and Canada, while 30 were provided for China and India. Altogether, there are around 1,000 Chevening Scholarships provided for 130 countries annually. Currently this money to study abroad is not available to students from the United States.

Qualifying

If you find that you live in a country, which qualifies for the Chevening Scholarships, you will learn quickly just how competitive this program can be. The limited number per country is one reason this money to study abroad is so difficult to get. Some of the qualifying criteria includes but is not limited to:

• Be a current resident of a qualifying country
• Not currently enrolled in or working overseas
• Not received any other scholarships for the academic year
• Academic IELTS test score at least 6.5
• Be mid-career- at least three years’ experience
• Have ambition
• Show leadership potential
• Be innovative and creative

You must have at least one qualification degree and complete a personal statement about why you would like to study in the United Kingdom and how it will benefit both professionally and personally. Once your application is accepted you may be called for an interview, at which time you will have to provide qualifying documentation and references.

Conclusion

Money to study abroad may be limited but if you can meet the qualifications, the Chevening Scholarships are a great way to advance your education and career. Priority is given to those participating in specific fields, including foreign and defense policy, public service, trade and investment, energy and climate change as well as several others.

Fulbright Scholarship and Grants – Student Scholarships and Grant Money Available http://www.individualgrantsonline.com/2011/07/20/fulbright-scholarship-grants-student-scholarships-grant-money-available/ http://www.individualgrantsonline.com/2011/07/20/fulbright-scholarship-grants-student-scholarships-grant-money-available/#comments Wed, 20 Jul 2011 23:27:01 +0000 admin http://www.individualgrantsonline.com/?p=27031 Fulbright Scholarship Overview:

Years ago the Arkansas Senator J. William Fulbright established what came to be eventually known as “The Fulbright Scholarship” program. He sponsored the legislation way back in 1946 and it has since helped multiplied thousands of students fund scholarships for higher education. The program is sponsored by the Dept. of State’s “Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs.”

To be named a “Fulbright Scholar” carries a certain amount of distinction with it in large part due to the program’s great success over the years. This success reaches even into the international educational community as many Fulbright scholars travel abroad utilizing the influence the money provides from the scholarship.

For those interested in applying to the program, understand that the program is administered in connection with the Council for International Exchange of Scholars (CIES). Their website can be found at www.cies.org. Of course, there are several other entities involved in the overall program. Perhaps the best place to go to find out more information is the Fulbright Program Website (www.fulbright.state.gov) at the Depart of State website devoted to the scholarship.

Fulbright Grants Overview:

It is important to understand that the Fulbright program offer both grants and scholarships. Not just students are eligible for the grants. Teachers, Scholars, Professionals, and groups can also apply and qualify for Fulbright Program Grant monies. The website on the department of state also includes a fact sheet which may be helpful to decide if you are entitled to apply for the Fulbright scholarship or grants. Be sure to go to both websites for the best understanding of these student opportunities.

Fulbright Grant Categories:

Fulbright U.S. Scholar Program.

This program enables up to 1,100 professionals and scholars abroad to 125 countries where they can lecture or conduct research in a wide array of areas.

Fulbright Specialist Program.

Sends U.S. faculty to serve as consulting professionals in curriculum, faculty development, planning and other areas for overseas assignments for up to 6 weeks.

Fulbright Visiting Scholar Program.

Provides over 800 visiting scholars the ability to lecture or conduct research at US institutions for up to a full academic year. Over 95 countries participate in this program from the benefits it offers.

Fulbright Scholar-in-Residence (SIR) Program.

This program help higher education institutions to host lectures from foreign academics on a wide range of subjects to enrich education. Includes approximately 50 grants per year.

The Fulbright Scholarship and the Fulbright Grant Programs have had a truly influential impact in many areas of the world for over 60 years. If you think you may qualify, it is worth the effort to explore the possibility of accessing the organizations resources to further your professional objectives.

Scholarship Mistakes: Don’t Make these 10 Common Errors While Applying for Scholarships http://www.individualgrantsonline.com/2011/07/18/scholarship-mistakes-dont-make-these-10-common-errors-while-applying-for-scholarships/ http://www.individualgrantsonline.com/2011/07/18/scholarship-mistakes-dont-make-these-10-common-errors-while-applying-for-scholarships/#comments Tue, 19 Jul 2011 05:23:16 +0000 admin http://www.individualgrantsonline.com/?p=27027 Every college student loves to get scholarship money, and many apply for tens of thousands of scholarships each year. The truth is that much scholarship money is forfeited because of these 10 common mistakes when applying for scholarships and grants. Here is a list to watch out for:

1. Waiting too late to apply. This is a big one! You must keep notice of scholarship deadlines and apply in a timely manner.
2. Incomplete paperwork. This is another problem for those searching for college money. By submitting incomplete paperwork you can easily eliminate yourself from the particular grant / scholarship you’re applying for.
3. Another error students make is not searching long enough for available school monies. They may think there are only a few places to get money like the ACT scholarship or a Pell Grant. In reality, there are thousands of places where money can be found. Don’t give up too quickly!!!
4. Students also can also believe a falsehood that there is NO MONEY to be found at all. This can cause them to not even look in the first place. Do your homework! There is money to be found in most cases for the diligent searcher.
5. Not following up on applications is another error. Don’t just submit and forget! Follow up.
6. Not applying for enough grants is the 6th error students make. The more scholarships you apply for correctly the higher your chances of securing the money.
7. Sloppy applications can also be a major hindrance. It can cause immediate rejection.
8. Bad spelling and grammar also cause negative first impressions in grant and scholarship applications.
9. Another bad mistake people can make is getting involved in a scholarship SCAM. If it sounds too good to be true, it probably is. Be careful about giving out information to organizations promising to get you a scholarship.
10. The last common mistake people make is not taking advantage of the search capabilities of the internet when trying to secure a grant / scholarship. This can save you much time. In fact there are many pre-researched lists of grants available online for those who will do the research. It’s not always easy, but usually worth the time investment.

Elks Scholarship from the Elks Foundation http://www.individualgrantsonline.com/2011/07/18/elks-scholarship-from-the-elks-foundation/ http://www.individualgrantsonline.com/2011/07/18/elks-scholarship-from-the-elks-foundation/#comments Tue, 19 Jul 2011 04:53:20 +0000 admin http://www.individualgrantsonline.com/?p=27023 Many young adults are not aware that the Elk Scholarship is available for college funding. The “Elks” organization runs the Elks lodges which are a part of many communities across the nation. They run more than 2000 lodges across the country and have some 900,000 members.

Through the charitable services of the Elks Foundation, they provide over 3 million dollars each year to support communities through three scholarship programs.

“Most Valuable Student Scholarships”
The scholarship applications for 2012 begin in September 1, 2011. The Elks Foundation will award 500 four year scholarships to lucky candidates. Applications can be found at your local Elks Lodge or online. Scholarships range from $1000.00 to $15,000.00.

“Legacy Awards Scholarships”

Legacy Awards are also great to help struggling students. Awards are for $4,000 scholarships ($1,000 per year for four years) with total of up to 250 awards offered.

“Emergency Educational Grant Program”

These grants benefit children of deceased or totally disabled Elks members and can range up to $4000. The exact amount is based upon information submitted in the application. Be aware that students must qualify and and membership of the Elks family member must be verified as well.

The Elks Foundation also supports many other programs on the state level. More information on their community involvement may be found on their website at The National Elks Foundation.

For searching for an Elks Scholarship and application read more of the details here. They also have a special helps section for students to find other scholarship resources.

Their website also contains more information about Grants given on the state and local level. They certainly do a great work from the Foundation including both the scholarship aspect and giving to the state and local communities. For college students looking to provide for their educational expenses, the Elks Scholarship should certainly be looked into especially if the student has a family member who is a member of this organization. Every little bit of money can help with those college expenses!
